Club Event - Pacifica Surf Day, Big Chill Out Contest!

Join some of the NorCal Women's Surf Club for
an informal surf day at Linda Mar Beach in Pacifica! (FYI, we will
start up our OFFICIAL club surf days again on the first Saturday of
the month, starting Nov 1) |

And also come out to show your support
for the youngsters, men and women surfing in the 13th Annual Big Chill
Out! team invitational, hosted by The Pedro Point Surf Club of Pacifica.
It'll be a great showcase of local talent from Santa Cruz to Bodega
Bay/Mendocino. Enter the raffle to win boards, too! |

MEET UP:
Stop by the NorCal Women's Surf Club's blue tent on the sand during
9am-3pm to say hi! and meet other club members that may be around.
Our tent will be located near the judges stand and all the other event
tents. Final contest location at Linda Mar TBD, based on surf conditions.

ABOUT THE BIG CHILL OUT
It's a full day of longboard surfing competition (novices, men & women),
raffle prizes, food, aloha spirit, followed by dinner at the Firehouse,
Pacifica. Unfortunately, all the contest slots are full at this time,
but the spectating should be fun. Be sure to enter the raffle for
tons of prizes, including some fantastic surfboards. Read about last

Ocean Beach Clean Water Paddle/Fest |

| |
SF Surfrider is sponsoring the annual
OB Clean Water Paddle/Fest on October 18th. This year is pretty low
pro; just a paddle out to give thanks, celebrate the year, and look
forward to a cleaner 2004 -- and some BBQ and beverages. It's at Lincoln
St, from 11am-3pm. Volunteers, please contact Sunde White at sundendee@aol.com.

free! Don't miss the swaying, life- sized Hula Girl statues posing

the history of surfing - in paintings, posters, photographs, film
and artifacts - from ancient Peru and Polynesia to the 21st Century.
It features artists who surf and surfers who make art, pop icons like
Gidget and serious works that struggle with the meaning of American

ABOUT RYAN HOLMES - A Santa Cruz
resident, Ryan is a top NorCal surf instructor. He has taught surfing
for 4 years and has trained & worked with Ed Guzman of Club Ed Surf
School and with former pro surfer Terry Simms' Simba Surfaris. Ryan
enjoys surfing all over the world, from Samoa and Fiji to Mexico.
He also taught windsurfing for 3 years. He is a certified First Responder
trained in CPR and taught the clinics at the NCWSC's Surf Fest this
past September. |

Coastal Protection Presentation |

The San Mateo chapter of Surfrider
presents... nationally famous geologist Dr. Orrin Pilkey of Duke University
is giving both a beach walk and a coastal protection presentation
in Pacifica on October 26th and 27th. Dr Pilkey is a world renowned
geologist specializing in beach replenishment and other forms of shoreline
stabilization. He has been featured in the New York Times Magazine,
Esquire, Oceans Magazine, Smithsonian Magazine, and National Geographic
Magazine. |

Dr. Pilkey will lead a group on
a tour of Esplanade Beach, Linda Mar Beach, and the Half Moon Bay
Jetty and discuss desirable & less desirable coastal management techniques
and impact on surrounding areas. Afterwards, meet at the Half Moon
Bay Brewery in Princeton for a "Dutch Treat" lunch. |

and the overall Foster's Pro Tour titles on the line, the competition
should be fierce. |
